THE PROJECT

Many who visit Hawaiʻi describe an experience that is difficult to put into words. Some speak of an unexpected sense of peace. Others notice a feeling of presence, clarity, or simply being more fully alive. In Hawaiian culture, many associate this quality with mana—a word often translated as spiritual power, life force, or the inherent vitality present in people and places.

Perhaps it is the island's isolation in the middle of the Pacific. Perhaps it is the sight of an active volcano reminding us that the Earth is still creating itself. Perhaps it is the ancient forests, the ocean, or the slower rhythm of island life.

Like surfing, extraordinary experiences don't happen simply because the waves are there. They require preparation, timing, humility, local knowledge, and a willingness to pay attention. Hawaiʻi offers countless moments of beauty, insight, and wonder, but many pass by unnoticed. The Dharma Residency is designed as a container to help facilitate the conditions for those moments to be recognized, experienced, and remembered.
